From Nine Silos to One System

Dr. Paul Stanton
AdvancED’s making the most of the continuous improvement process is accomplished through the power of internal review, reflections and the power of external review and future focus. The power of the internal review process results in dialogue and collaborative reflection for the purpose of increased student learning. The future focus of the external review helps to achieve higher levels of performance and addresses areas hindering desired performance levels.

Humboldt School District started AdvancED’s continuous improvement and accreditation journey to systematize processes of organizational effectiveness, student achievement and student preparation for the future, high expectations for professional practice, and promoting collaboration and innovation.

The district’s benefits have included the opportunity to become accredited instead of having to become accredited; Humboldt recognized its successes and accomplishments. A recruitment and marketing strategy was developed, as well as a structure as to how the district does business to help focus its resources.

AdvancED domains with standards supplied the teaching and learning impact, leadership capacity and resource utilization and, ultimately, provided the framework for the journey of how nine Humboldt schools came together by design into an effective system.
